Gaia Banfi Releases “D’UNA” on Thursday, November 14 – The First Single from Her Upcoming Album Due Out in March on Trovarobato

Singer-songwriter, musician, and producer Gaia Banfi, born in 1998, is a rising talent in the new wave of Italian music. Following her debut album released in 2020 and several singles released between 2022 and 2023, Gaia Banfi returns with a new musical project for the historic Bologna-based label Trovarobato, marking the start of a new artistic journey that blends pop, singer-songwriter traditions, and experimental electronic sounds.

D’UNA is a simple and minimalistic track that doesn’t follow a clear narrative thread, other than the desire to express a melancholic feeling towards an unfulfilled emotional relationship. It’s an inner journey that confronts pain, but also awareness and acceptance, as a form of liberation. The nostalgia for the past and the realization of the difficulty of understanding the other person intertwine, creating a sense of “incompleteness” and a search for deeper meaning.

The song carries emotional intensity, paired with airy vocals and an arrangement that emphasizes its mood, symbolically represented in the lyrics by a moth—an insect that seeks the light but burns itself in the process. This serves as a key symbol of fragility and the transience of the situation.

“During the same period I was composing D’UNA,” says Gaia, “I listened to a lot of Italian music, especially from the singer-songwriter tradition of the past and improvisational music. I rediscovered a beauty in the simplicity of the lyrics, but most importantly, a richness in the arrangements and compositions, which I’ve always studied and admired throughout my academic journey.”

The simplicity and minimalism of the song are also reflected visually in the cover art, represented by another symbol: the shape of an open, deformed circle. This represents the beginning of a new path and the idea that anyone can enter it, like a kind of initiation ritual. The colors and textures evoke the sand of the sea, a recurring element in this new body of work.

D’UNA is just the first step of an artist who has yet to fully reveal herself, an introduction that hints that the best is yet to come.

D’UNA

Io vedo ancora i tuoi soliti sorrisi

Come farai

Mi mancano i tuoi sorrisi
